No. 7 Badgers head into holiday break on high note

The No. 7 Brock women's volleyball team capped off the first half of the OUA season by sweeping the Guelph Gryphons 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-13) at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday.

Sam Casey diveBrock improves to 7-2 for first place in the West as they recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

The victory was a nice touch after losing a close game to No. 9 Waterloo the previous night.

"Accountability is a big aspect of our team this year and I think we've been doing a really good job of holding ourselves to that," said senior outside hitter Laura Condotta.

Condotta and Darby Taylor commanded the offence with critical kills.

"We've all been really supportive of each other and pushing ourselves to our limits," said Condotta. "I think the biggest thing that our team has been thriving for is being fearless on the court, and after each game it feels like we're getting closer and closer to that mentality."

Condotta, who leads the league in kills per set, scored 17 kills and Taylor, who is fifth in hitting percentage, added 13 kills.

Emily Armstrong contributed 12 assists per set. First-year players Samantha Casey and Aleiah Torres combined for 14 digs.

After drowning in errors versus Waterloo, the Badgers' coaching staff had a long meeting on how to minimize errors.

"We cut our errors in half against Guelph," said head coach Steve Delaney. "So as long we continue to play free, but not make mistakes and be completely focused to follow the game plan then we'll be a tough team to beat. A great win tonight to bounce back after a tough loss. We've put ourselves in a good position heading into the break."

The Badgers resume play in January when they host three consecutive home games versus Trent (Jan. 17), Ryerson (Jan. 19) and McMaster (Jan. 26).
