Box Score The Brock Badgers opened the OUA men's hockey playoffs with a 2-1 victory versus York at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Wednesday.
Brock leads the best-of-three series 1-0.
Tyler Rollo scored the game-winning goal and goaltender Logan Thompson made 33 saves in Game 1.
"This was a good start, but we need to play 60 minutes in York on Friday," said head coach Marty Williamson. "It was a hard-fought battle."
After Jared Marino opened the scoring at 7:12 of the first period, the Lions replied with a goal by Justin Maiolino. Rollo restored Brock's lead two minutes later.
"Good finish by them. We lost our man and they made us pay," said Williamson. "The game came down to a crazy last minute but the guys protected the house."
York outshot Brock 13-7 in the third period.
Ryan Burton, Skylar Pacheco, Adam Berg and Jake Ringuette each contributed an assist.
The Badgers fired 30 shots on Lions netminder Alex Fotinos.
York hosts Game 2 on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
