Johneil Simpson moved past former teammate Dani Elgadi for second in Brock men's basketball all-time scoring with 13 points during a 94-74 loss to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on the road Friday.

"I want to use this as an opportunity to thank my teammates for helping me to get to this point," said Simpson. "We have a very talented team with a lot of guys who can score the ball, but they still always try to get me looks! Number two all time is pretty special, so it's good feeling. Gotcha, Dani."

Cassidy Ryan scored 20 points and put up five rebounds and a steal.

Brock and Lakehead were each fighting for spots in their division. The Badgers fought to remain in second and Lakehead battled for fifth.

Each team came out with fight on both ends, and the first quarter ended with an 18-18 tie.

Brock was winning the battle early on the defensive boards, and it was getting them many chances down the floor. Due to their rebounding partly by Daniel Cayer, Brock got the ball inside and scored 24 points in the second quarter to jump out to a 42-34 lead going into the third quarter.

Brock's efficiency suffered in the second half.

Lakehead pressured passes and the Badgers made mistakes which caused turnovers throughout the quarter. Lakehead took advantage of the mistakes and leaped back out in front, now with a 63-58 lead over the Badgers.

The Badgers had to get their feet back under them in the fourth to keep with the Thunderwolves. Now, with a lot of momentum, the Thunderwolves continued to pressure the Badgers all throughout the fourth quarter which caused the Badgers problems as their offensive efficiency couldn't get back to what it was in the first half.

Lakehead continued to find opportunities around the basket by exploiting gaps in the defense and they held on to their lead to take game one over the Badgers.

Brock plays one final regular season game on the road Saturday night, a rematch against Lakehead, before they enter playoffs.
