Box Score Maggie Spratt-Mallick earned a special award and scored two goals to lift the Brock women's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks during the team's Pink in the Rink game at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Friday.
Prior to puck drop, Spratt-Mallick was awarded the Oonagh Hastie Bursary Award, which is given to a player who exhibits all-around sportsmanship, leadership as Oonagh demonstrated when she was an original member of the Niagara Women's Recreational Hockey League.
The bursary was created when Oonagh, who was near and dear to the Brock women's hockey program, unfortunately passed away from cancer.
Spratt-Mallick scored to give the Badgers' their second lead of the game and, after the Ridgebacks tied it up, she struck again in the third period for the game-winning goal.
"The girls stuck with it," said head coach Margot Page. "It wasn't a pretty win, but the three points is huge tonight."
Carley Blomberg put the Badgers on the board first. Annie Berg tallied two assists, while Amanda Ieradi, Makyla Porter and Cassidy Maplethorpe each registered an assist.
Goaltender Jensen Murphy made 36 saves.
For the Ridgebacks, Kassidy Nauboris and Sophia Christopherson each scored a goal. Goalie Briar Hughes faced 29 shots in the loss.
Up next, the Badgers (8-7-5-3) host the Queen's Golden Gaels (13-9-1-0) for the final game of the regular season at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7:15 p.m.
The team will honour their senior players - captain Brenna Murphy, Jensen Murphy, Maggie Spratt-Mallick, Kim Brown, Amanda Ieradi and Marissa Graham - before puck drop with a ceremony.
