Tyler Brown made an interstellar drive to the net with little time on the clock to lift the Brock Badgers to a 89-88 win over the Western Mustangs during the OUA men's basketball quarter-finals in London on Saturday.
"I knew we only had eight seconds left and we were down by a point, so I was trying to get the best possible shot to help the team win," said Brown. "We watched a lot of film on this team, so I knew where I could put pressure on them offensively and that's what I tried to do."
Brown scored a season-high 26 points and contributed six assists and five rebounds.
"TB (Tyler Brown) is just mad. He's tremendous. He's one of the best point guards in this country," said head coach Madhav Trivedi. "What he brings to the table as a two-player is just fantastic. In big games, TB steps up. From start to finish he was very good for us. He takes the initiative to make sure he's on the same page as the coaching staff, so he goes out there and leads the troops and he can echo everything that we want them to do."
Brock trailed 42-35 at halftime, but outscored the Mustangs 28-20 in the fourth quarter.
Johneil Simpson tallied 23 points and Michael Vos Otin hauled down 12 rebounds and recorded 16 points. Cassidy Ryan scored 18 points.
The Badgers advance to the semifinals. They travel to Ottawa to play the Carleton Ravens on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Tipoff is 8 p.m.
