The Brock women's basketball team played a hard-fought 40 minutes against the No 3-ranked McMaster Marauders during a 81-70 loss in the second round of the OUA playoffs on Saturday afternoon.
Kristin Gallant scored 17 points in the Badgers efforts, and recorded eight rebounds and five assists.
Brock put McMaster on their toes every minute of the game.
Early on, the Badgers hit mid-range shots along the baseline to keep up with the ball movement of the Marauders. At the end of the first quarter, McMaster held a 22-19 lead.
As Brock began to go on a run in the second quarter, small errors like missed passes or turnovers while dribbling sent the ball going the other way and resulted in a even quarter. Keeping the score within five, Brock went into the second half down 36-32.
Their full-court battle for momentum lasted the entire third quarter as both sides traded small runs and knocked the score up higher. Heading into the final 10 minutes, the Marauders were ahead 53-50.
Brock brought the game within 1-2 points throughout the fourth quarter but a slew of turnovers in the final minutes gave McMaster the run they needed to push ahead and take a lead large enough to last. Brock rallied to push back once more but it wouldn't come to fruition until the final buzzer went.
