Men's Hockey: Badgers' 'terrific season' comes to an end

The final buzzer sounded on the Brock men's hockey season on Sunday.

Western Mustangs goaltender Luke Peressini stonewalled the Badgers en route to a 7-1 victory at Seymour-Hannah Arena in Game 3 of the OUA West semifinals to knock Brock out of the playoffs.

"What a terrific season. I want our guys to be proud of this year," said head coach Marty Williamson. "We have to focus on school and come back hungry for success next season."

Peressini posted a 31-save performance, including a number of highlight-reel saves as Western killed off seven Brock power-play opportunities.

The Badgers ended Peressini's bid for a shutout late in the third period when Jared Marino found the back of the net on a feed from Tyler Rollo. Adam Berg also notched an assist.

Western went three-for-four with the man advantage.

The loss signals the end of an incredible campaign for the Badgers (19-5-4-4) where they set a new school record with a total of 19 regular season wins.

First-year goaltender Logan Thompson finished as one of the top netminders in the OUA with a .934 save percentage and 2.22 goals against average.

The Badgers allowed the least amount of goals in the OUA (62 against), which was also the third best in the country, and swept York out of the playoffs.

First-year forward Ryan Burton led the team in scoring with nine goals and 19 points in 28 games alongside second-year winger Ayden MacDonald (six goals and 19 points).

Brock routinely reached the U SPORTS national Top 10 weekly rankings, posted numerous win streaks and ended the regular season with a 13-game point streak.
