Badgers conclude season with seven-win improvement, trip to playoffs

The Brock women's volleyball team fell out of the playoffs on Saturday.

The Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the Badgers 3-1 (25-12, 25-23, 15-25, 26-24) in the OUA quarter-finals in Toronto.

Brock completed the regular season with a 13-6 record, which was seven-win improvement over last year.

"It was our first playoff experience for pretty much everyone on the team and the match got away from us," said head coach Steve Delaney. "We'll learn from this and move on. It was a tough situation for us at the end. It's not the way we wanted out season to end, but I'm happy about the way we fought back and put up a good fight."

Toronto dominated the first set, yet the Badgers rallied and play the Blues close in the second.

"We really had the nerves going in the first set, but we battled back in the second set and we lost a close one," said Delaney. "We were up 20-15 in the fourth, but we let it get away from us."

Brock regrouped in the third set and jumped out to an 11-4 lead. The Badgers went into the technical timeout up 16-8 and ultimately took the set 25-15.

Darby Taylor and Grace Edwards both made appearances despite being day-to-day with injuries.

Taylor and Laura Condotta each scored nine kills. Condotta added 17 digs.

Edwards chipped in five kills, three service aces and eight digs. Jenn Todd fired up four kills. Emily Armstrong recorded eight digs and 22 assists.
