Outfielder Connor Humphrey came to the ballpark and meant business, tallying five hits and leading the Brock Badgers to a 28-8 win over the George Brown Huskies to open their 2019 campaign at George Taylor Field on Thursday.
Humphrey, a second-year Sport Management student from Guelph, added four runs and six RBI.
First-year starting pitcher Nick Davies, a 6-foot-3 lefty from Ancaster, struck out four batters in two innings, and the Brock pitching staff of Alex Emerson, Thomas Deeg, Tyler Stoltz, Yuto Abukawa and Matt Lamoureux combined for 12 total strikeouts.
George Brown scored all seven of their runs in the second inning.
The Badgers collected 18 hits in the game. Humphrey, Brandon Underhill, Ben Tiw, Ryan Bench, Matthew Casburn, and Bryn Sanford all managed multiple hits for Brock. Humphrey led the Badgers with five hits in five at bats. Bench added a home run and six RBI.
George Brown racked up 11 hits.
Up next, the Badgers travel to Buffalo, New York to play the Erie Kats on Saturday, Aug. 31.
