Connor Ambrogio registered 11 strikeouts in seven innings to lead the Brock Badgers to a 2-1 victory over the Niagara County Thunderwolves on Sunday.
Ambrogio, a second-year pitcher from Dorchester, Ont, limited the Thunderwolves to four hits and walked only one batter.
"We are quite pleased with how several of our second- and third-year pitchers have been performing," said Badgers pitching coach Fabio Del Rio. "We are a young staff, and we are trying to get all of our guys some experience in competitive situations."
The Badgers posted a record of 2-2 over the weekend with a pair of wins (2-1 and 9-3) over Niagara County and two losses to the Le Moyne College Dolphins by scores of 4-1 and 16-5.
Outfielder Bryn Sanford collected seven hits in 11 at bats, a run and three RBI during the weekend. Second baseman Ashton Feijo blasted a home run, and racked up five hits, three runs and three RBI.
Despite pitching in a loss during their first match with Le Moyne, Brandon Underhill delivered seven strikeouts in six innings and allowed five hits and four earned runs.
He walked only one batter.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Badgers (5-2) travel to Olean, New York to face off against St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m. as the continue to sharpen their play for the OUA Championships in October.
"Arm health is a top priority for us," said Del Rio. "A few of the guys are still recovering from injuries over the summer, but overall our training program is geared towards having the staff at peak performance for OUAs."
