Junior forward Samantha Bayer scored her first goal of the season as the Brock women's soccer team narrowly lost 2-1 on the road in Guelph on Friday.
Guelph led 1-0 after the first half before Bayer found the back of the net in the 45th minute. Erica D'Alesio picked up an assist on the marker.
"Sam scored an incredible goal," said interim head coach Lucio Ianiero. "It was a great team build up that lead to Sam being in the right spot for Erica to find her for a clean shot into the net."
The Gryphons notched the game winner when Bictoria Hinchliffe netted a goal in the 68th mark.
For Brock, midfielder Melanie Scouten recorded a shot on goal.
Guelph outshot Brock 6-2 and the Gryphons managed seven corner kicks.
"I thought it was quite even. We introduced some new things to the girls and we thought they executed well," said Ianiero. "They're adapting to the changes we've made and we think they will be able to string wins together real soon."
Up next, the Badgers (0-1-2) regroup to host the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
