The Brock men's hockey team lost 4-3 to the Guelph Gryphons at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Jan. 16.
The Badgers beat the Gryphons by an identical score last week, however head coach Marty Williamson said a costly first period was the difference.
"We struggled in the first, but I thought we played two good periods after that," he said. "The lesson is you must play 60 minutes."
A total of six goals were scored in the opening frame as Guelph led 4-2 after the first.
Guelph's Todd Winder opened the scoring, yet the Badgers replied with a goal from Brayden Stortz a minute later. Cole Thiessen and Ayden MacDonald each recorded an assist.
The Gryphons capitalized with the man advantage at the midway mark before Brock found away when Frankie Pucci fired the puck into the back of the net just 30 seconds later.
Ryan Valentini scored back-to-back goals for the Gryphons, which his second would stand as the game winner.
For Brock, Jordan Maletta scored his first OUA goal as a Badger early in the second. Ryan Burton and Skylar Pacheco each earned an assist on the play.
The Badgers outshot the Gryphons 30-23 as goalie Mario Culina suffered the loss in between the pipes. Guelph's Brendan Cregan recorded the win in net. His team went two-for-two on the power play.
Up next, the Badgers (12-10) host the York Lions on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:15 p.m.
