The Brock men's basketball team secured their fourth consecutive win and honoured a former Badger at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday evening.
Prior to tipoff, Brock honoured former Badger Jason Pearson, a student-athlete who tragically lost his life in 2001.
The Jason Pearson Memorial scholarship was awarded to Kyle Cooper of the men's basketball team. This award is presented to a member of the Brock Badgers men's basketball team each season. In addition to their athletic and academic ability, the recipient exhibits the same warmth of personality, concern for others and positive attitude for life as did Jason Pearson.Â
"I have to give a lot of credit to my teammates, coaches and staff for giving me the opportunities to succeed this season," said Cooper, a second-year forward from Wainfleet who is studying Kinesiology. "I was definitely surprised, but it's motivating to receive an award named after such a high-character guy, and I look forward to the opportunity to carry that forward for the rest of the season."
The Badgers defeated the visiting Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 98-56 and improve to 9-6.
Guards Daniel Caldwell and Noah Lapierre led the team in scoring with 23 and 22 points, respectively. Caldwell also hauled in eight rebounds and LaPierre made three steals.
Daniel Cayer recorded eight rebounds and Cooper collected six.
Tyrell MacLennan netted 13 points and Godsman Kwakwah posted 10. Tyler Brown registered six assists.
Up next, the Badgers (9-6) host the Queen's Gaels (9-6) at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available here.
