The No. 8 Brock women's basketball team celebrated their senior players by winning 73-55Â in front of a sold-out crowd during Bell Let's Talk Day on Jan. 29.
Brock improves to 14-3 to take first place in the OUA Central, and extends their win streak to four games.
Prior to tipoff, the Badgers honoured graduating players Melissa Tatti and Jessica Morris with a pre-game ceremony.
"I wouldn't be the person I am without Brock Basketball," said Tatti, who currently leads the OUA in scoring with 18.2 points per game. "The individuals I have met through this program have all influenced me in one way or another and I wouldn't be here without them."
Both teams also paid tribute to NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who tragically passed away on Jan. 26, by each sacrificing a possession to open the game.
The Lions roared out of the gate and built a quick 6-0 lead and led 29-27 by halftime.
"The girls were really hyped up for this," said head coach Mike Rao. "You could tell at the beginning. Nothing was dropping, nothing was going our way and our defence was a little bit sloppy, but in the second half we cleaned that all up."
The Badgers took the lead by outscoring the Lions 24-14 in the third quarter and led 51-43 heading into the final frame.
Brock shot 41.4 per cent (29-70) from field goal range versus York's 26.4 per cent (19-of-72).
Tatti finished the game by tying her career-high points with 30, which she recently set on Jan. 25, and contributed seven assists and five steals.
Sam Keltos set an OUA single-game record with nine blocks. She also added nine rebounds and eight points.
Morris added eight points while going two-for-three from beyond the arc. Sofia Croce and Kristin Gallant each scored 10 points. Croce added nine rebounds and Gallant dished out five assists and chipped in six boards and three steals.
Up next, the Badgers (14-3) travel to Toronto to battle the No. 4 Ryerson Rams (13-4), who trail the Badgers in the divisional standings, on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.
