The Brock men's hockey team has skated into a tough stretch of games during the month of January.
After opening the first half with a 10-7 record, the Badgers lost their fourth consecutive game, a 3-1 loss at York, on Jan. 29.
"Just no puck luck," said head coach Marty Williamson. "The boys are working their rear ends off with no reward. We just need to preserve."
For a second straight game, the Badgers and their opponent entered the third period scoreless.
York's Dylan Riley opened the scoring at 2:49, but Brock responded minutes later when forward Christian Girhiny converted a feed from Justin Brack, who picked up a rebound and threaded a pass to the front of net from behind the goal line. Captain Connor Walters also assisted on the goal.
Morgan Messenger scored the winner, and added an empty-net goal, to lift York to victory.
Brock outshot York 26-18.
Up next, the Badgers (12-13) will get another crack at climbing the standings with back-to-back evening games at Lakehead (11-13) beginning on Friday, Jan. 31 before returning home and hosting the Western Mustangs at Seymour-Hannah Arena to close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 8.
