Preview (Feb. 6-9): Badgers honour senior players

Laura Condotta is one of three senior players the women's volleyball team will honour prior to their match versus the Waterloo Warriors at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday, Feb. 7.

The No. 7 Brock women's volleyball team will pay homage to their senior players prior to their high-stakes match with the No. 10 Waterloo Warriors at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

The Badgers (10-3) will attempt to hold off the Warriors (9-4) as they battle for home-court advantage for the OUA playoffs during the homestretch of the regular season. Tickets

"This is a huge match for us, because whoever wins this match gets an advantage going into the final push for playoffs," said Delaney, whose team previously lost to the Warriors on Nov. 22. "We're right in it with Waterloo. They're a strong team with a strong hitter in Sarah Glynn. We're going to have to stop her as well as play our own game."

Prior to the game, Brock will honour three of their graduating players: left side hitter Laura Condotta, right side hitter Darby Taylor and outside hitter Morgan Monkman.

Taylor thought she might graduate and make last year her final year, but over the summer decided to return to do her Masters of Business Administration, and compete for the Badgers in her fifth and final year.

"Darby's been a huge contribution from blocking at the net to attacking for us, and from the service line as well," said Delaney. "She's leading the team in digs every week, which is another key contribution that she's making."

Condotta, a Sports Management student, has racked up 733 career kills in five seasons as a Badger, so far.

"What can you say about her? She's the Player of the Year in the West last year, she's touching the ball more than everybody else because she's passing and attacking," said Delaney. "She's key for us putting the ball away and getting the ball up on defence, but also with leadership. A lot of the girls look up to her, because she's such a talented player and athlete."

Monkman, a Psychology student, went through a tough situation last season when she injured her ACL, so her first campaign with Delaney was a medical red shirt season.

"Even though she was limited, Morgan brought a positive influence to practice," said Delaney. "This year she's battled back from the injury and she's seen some court time with us in matches, and was the Player of the Game for us versus Trent."

Delaney said Monkman is a key piece during practice because they like to train in game situations.

"She makes a point of helping everyone get better," he said.
