In response to the measures taken across Canada as a result of the COVID-19, the annual Brock Sports Awards Gala that brings together more than 900 student-athletes spanning 45 teams has been cancelled.
In an effort to still celebrate the outstanding 2019-20 season the Badgers took to social media last Friday to announce that the annual awards gala will be live streamed on Wednesday, March 25, at 7 p.m.
"During such unprecedented times we have to pivot and identify new creative opportunities," said Kate Dudley, Marketing Manager, Ancillary Services. "By utilizing an online live streaming platform, we are still able to celebrate our amazing teams, coaches and athletes while following Public Health guidelines."
The 2019-20 Brock Sports Awards Gala will be streamed on the Brock Badgers Instagram account. Following the same outline as in years past, there will be remarks from administration and major award winners will be announced during the live stream. Guests are invited to tune in from the comfort of their own homes and interact with the live feed by typing in comments and sending their favourite celebration emojis.
The Badgers achieved many program milestones during the 2019-20 season. Most notable were team appearances on the U SPORTS national stage.
The Brock Men's and Women's Wrestling teams were once again crowned OUA and U SPORTS Champions for a total of 72 team championship titles, further cementing their program dominance across the country. Women's Volleyball clinched their first trip to Nationals in program history by finishing second in the OUA conference finals.
And the Women's Basketball team captured the hearts of Badgers fans across the country as they won the OUA Critelli Cup for the first time since 1983 and reached the U SPORTS gold-medal game for the first time in program history.
"The team is working hard to make the event fun and engaging," said Dudley. "We look forward to connecting with the entire Brock Badgers community from our current student-athletes to our alumni, and super fans online."
