Badgers look ahead to Laurier after 1-0 loss to Windsor

The Brock men's soccer team is looking ahead to hosting Laurier this week after a 1-0 road loss in Windsor on Sunday, Oct. 3.

"Playing away at Windsor is always difficult. We controlled the game and had many chances, but we were unlucky not to take the lead," said assistant captain Luca Ragagnin, a third-year centre back. "We kept our shape in the back three and did not allow them many chances to score. We will continue to work together and improve every game."

Just 40 seconds into the match, fullback Sebastian Petrilli kicked a shot off the post on a sharp midfield pass from centre midfielder Daniel Buccianti.

In the second half, Windsor was awarded a goal in the 62nd minute after a series of brilliant saves by goalkeeper Alex May and defenders Luca Ragagnin and Nolan Bosetti.

"I think the lads responded well by creating great scoring chances and fighting until the final whistle," Ragagnin said. "Unfortunately, we did not get a result, but we will use this game as motivation for our next match."

Late in the match, Brock's Mateo Puentes scored a goal, yet it was called back.

Brock outshot Windsor 13-8 as each team took four corners. Michael Fernandez fired four shots while Petrilli, Michael Solomon and Jacob Geyer each recorded two. Declan Confortin and Alejandro Puentes each added a shot.

"The team worked hard today but ultimately fell short of our goal. Throughout the game, we had bouts of stellar possession, but we couldn't capitalize on our opportunities," said head coach Erik Van Wissen. "We were unfortunate not to get a result from the game. No time to dwell on our loss. We now shift our focus to Laurier on Wednesday night."

Next, the Badgers (1-2-1) host the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-2) at Alumni Field on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 8:15 p.m.
