Guy scores twice, Badgers tame Lions in OT thriller

Owen Guy's two goals, including the overtime winner, lifted the Brock Badgers to a 4-3 win over the York Lions at Seymour-Hannah Arena on Thursday, Nov. 18.

Guy scored just 21 seconds in overtime to seal the deal for the Badgers. The goal was manufactured courtesy of Jacob Roach and Cole Thiessen on several sharp passes.

"I thought we got away from our game tonight, but when we got back to our game in the third," said assistant coach Jerome Dupont. "We were a much better team, and fortunately, we were able to pull this one off."

Guy opened the scoring in the first period as Tyler Burnie and Christian DeDonato each registered an assist.

York responded late in the frame to skate into the second period tied at one.

Senior forward Justin Brack scored his first goal of the season early in the second to reclaim the Brock lead. Ryan Burton and Caleb Boman each posted the assists.

York struck back three minutes later to tie the game; however, Brack notched his second period to give Brock a 3-2 lead. Adam Berg and Cole Thiessen had the helpers.

York had the only goal in the third period to tie the game, and the score stayed that way until the end of regulation.

Goaltender Mario Culina made 31 saves in the win as Brock outshot York 38-34.

"We started slow, but we picked it up in the third period, and we got the win, and that's all that matters," Culina said. "Now we have to move on and get ready for Saturday."

Next, the Badgers (3-1-0) travel to Toronto to play York (2-0-1) on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7:15 p.m.

Prior to the game, the Badgers honoured the Brock men's lacrosse team on winning the Baggataway Cup, the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association championship, earlier this month with a ceremonial puck drop.
