Women’s Volleyball: No. 6 Badgers sink Marauders

Madison Chimienti registered 16 kills, and the No. 6 Brock women's volleyball team handed the McMaster Marauders their first loss, 3-1 (25-19, 25-27, 28-26, 25-22), of the season on Friday, Nov. 19 at Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Chimienti, a first-year left side who joined the Badgers during the pandemic, added 12 digs while posting a .294 hitting percentage.

The Badgers committed only four errors in the first set; however, they ran into hitting trouble in a back-and-forth second set which they lost 27-25.

"Whenever we got behind, we collectively knew that the common goal was to find our way back into the set," Chimienti said. "No one doubted that we were going to lose. Any time we fell back, we came back by fixing little mistakes."

In the third, the Badgers battled back and held on to win 28-26 and take a 2-1 lead.

Chimienti and second-year right side Gigi Markotic combined for five kills to sink the Marauders.

"I just apply what I've learned in training," Chimienti said. "Of course, it's great to get a kill, but I'm focused on executing the handwork with tips or smart shots instead of just pounding the ball."

Second-year libero Aleiah Torres led the team with 16 digs.

Markotic added four services and five digs. Emily Foest recorded 13 kills, two service aces, and third-year setter Sara Rohr contributed 37 assists alongside six digs.

Next, the Badgers (2-0) travel to Hamilton for a rematch with McMaster on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m.

"Tonight was a big game for our team in terms of adversity," added Chimienti. "We're off to a great start, but we're always focused on pushing forward."
