Kaitlyn Colonna will lead the Brock women's hockey team when the puck drops on the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women's hockey season in Windsor on Friday, Nov. 5.
The Badgers face off against the Lancers at 7:30 p.m. in the first leg of their back-to-back series in Windsor. Follow the game on OUA.tv.
Colonna, a fourth-year defender from Mississauga studying Kinesiology, was named captain as part of the Badgers' leadership core heading into their first hockey season since the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled last year's campaign.
"Kaitlyn leads by example. She is always one of the hardest workers and always has a smile on her face," said head coach Margot Page. "Co (Colonna) wants to be the best at everything but will never leave a teammate behind to accomplish that."
Alternate captains joining Colonna are fifth-year forward Carley Blomberg, fourth-year blueliner Paige Cohoon and second-year forward Emma Irwin.
Page said each of these leaders has a different leadership style that compliments each other.
"Because of this dynamic, they connect very well with their teammates. At this level, they know that a great team needs to be player-led, and they are committed to doing that," Page said. "This group gets it. They drive the culture of this team day in and day out. They ensure they are role models of excellence in every aspect of student-athlete life."
Brock will play Windsor again on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m. before returning home to prepare for their home opener versus the Laurier Golden Hawks at Seymour-Hannah Centre on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7:15 p.m.
