Badgers out of playoffs with loss to Marauders

HAMILTON – The Brock Badgers women's soccer team battled to a 3-2 loss versus the McMaster Marauders in the first round of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

The Marauders scored a pair of early goals before Emily Cirone scored on a penalty kick in the 25th minute to put Brock on the board.

Trailing 3-1 in the second half, an Erica D'Alesio shot deflected off a Marauders defender and into net to pull the Badgers within one.

McMaster outshot Brock 18-16.

"Our goal this year wasn't just to make an impact, but to build something sustainable long-term," said head coach Carli Tingstad. "It wasn't the result we wanted tonight, but I think it was a step in the right direction. The only way to get experience playing in these games is by making it and being in these games. Moving forward, I think this season was a step in the right direction."

With a total of 19 first- and second-year players, the Badgers enjoyed an improved regular season campaign with a record of 5-5-2 and a return to the playoffs after missing last year with a 2-5 record.
