No. 5 Brock suffers first defeat of the new season

ST CATHARINES - In a battle of nationally ranked teams, the No. 5 Brock Badgers men's hockey team fell 6-4 to the visiting No. 7 TMU Bold at Canada Games Park on Saturday afternoon.

Riding a four game winning streak into the Saturday contest, the Badgers confidence was riding high, including in the opening minutes as a seeing-eye shot from Zachary Taylor opened the scoring in favour of Brock. However, some miscommunication on the powerplay resulted in a turnover, which Kyle Bollers took advantage of to score a short-handed marker for TMU making it a 1-1 tie heading into the intermission.

Back on the ice for the second, Jordan Stock notched his first career OUA goal at the five minute mark to restore a one goal lead for the host Badgers. The Bold were undeterred though as they went on to record a three goal second period and take a 4-2 lead. Continuing his strong performance for TMU, Bollers had an assist on all three markers.

Finally, in the third period, Brock was once again able to score the first goal of the frame courtesy the stick of Cole Tymkin, but a TMU goal just a minute later and an empty-netter in the final minute secured the victory for the visitors. Bradon Caruso added a Badgers goal with just 14 seconds left to round out the scoring.

Mario Peccia made 31 saves in net for Brock, while Kai Edmonds notched 26 in the win for TMU.

Brock will next complete a home-and-home series with the York Lions beginning in Toronto on Friday, Nov. 4. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. with the game being streamed on OUA.TV.
