ST. CATHARINES - Completing back-to-back games with a road matchup in Guelph, the Brock Badgers men's hockey team picked up an exciting 5-4 overtime win versus the Gryphons on Friday evening.
Looking to finish the fall semester schedule on a high-note the Friday victory for the Badgers follows a decisive 4-2 win over the York Lions just the night prior. Brock improves to 10-4-0 on the season placing them alone in third place in the OUA West division with one more game left to play before the winter break.
Brock started fast on Friday night scoring two goals in the opening seven minutes of the contest.
Tyler Burnie notched his first of two goals on the night benefiting from a costly Gryphons turnover, while
Cole Thiessen streaked down the right wing to make it a 2-0 Badgers advantage.
However, Guelph answered right back in the second period with two goals of their own courtesy Nolan DeGruse and a powerplay marker from Luke Kutkevicius.
Both teams would add a pair of goals in the third to force overtime. Brock's goals came off the sticks of Zach Taylor and Burnie, while Guelph scorers were Liam Ham and DeGruse.
Requiring an extra seven minutes of 3-on-3 overtime, it was
Justin Brack who delivered overtime heroics for the Badgers scoring at the 3:50 mark of the extra frame.
Mario Peccia made 27 total saves for the Badgers in the win, while Guelph goalie Brendan Cregan turned aside 34.
Brock concludes the fall portion of their schedule on Sunday, Dec. 4 at Canada Games Park versus the very same Gryphons. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. Tickets for Brock Badgers home games can be purchased at
