Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Stephen Leithwood

Lall lights up Marauders as No. 5 Badgers improve to 9-0

Senior guard Tajinder Lall hit a cold-blooded deep three-pointer to abolish the McMaster Marauders' comeback and power the No. 5 Brock men's basketball team to a 94-88 win at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Lall posted his second consecutive double-double game as he scored 34 points and caught 12 rebounds.

"This game was a good experience for us as we look toward the playoffs because we may run into McMaster again," Lall said. "A close game like this can give a team a lot of productive experience."

Late in the third quarter, the Marauders pushed the undefeated Badgers and were within striking distance of taking the lead until Lall recovered a loose ball with four seconds remaining on the shot clock.

He drained the three, then smashed an emphatic dunk seconds later, followed by a layup.

The series of highlight-reel plays garnered enough cheers from Lall's teammates to make up for the spectators who were not permitted to attend the game as Brock phases in operations for a safe return to campus.

The Badgers found an answer every time the Marauders roared back. Lall scored 21 of his 34 points in the second half. He finished with five assists and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.

"You can see in a game like tonight's that experience can be the difference-maker. TJ was comfortable in a tight game," said head coach Willy Manigat. "To have someone for the guys to get behind and to know they have someone they can trust in those moments is a calming factor. That's the effect he brings, and that's why we were so excited to have him join our team."

Jesse Barnes notched his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Bujdoso (11 points), Emmanuel Owoo-toah (10) and Jordan Tchuente (10) each netted double-digit points.

Brock outrebounded McMaster 46-25. The first-place Badgers currently lead the OUA in scoring with 95.4 points per game.

Up next, the Badgers (9-0) visit the Marauders (6-3) in Hamilton on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. Livestream the game on OUA.tv.
