Thunderwolves hand Badgers loss in series opener

Box Score The Brock men's hockey team dropped the first match of a weekend doubleheader in Thunder Bay.
 
The Badgers lost 7-4 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves at Fort William Gardens.
 
Defenceman Cole Thiessen scored a power-play goal for the second consecutive game, while Thunder Bay native Ryan Burton netted his first goal of the season.
 
Jared Marino scored his team-leading fifth goal, and blueliners Thiessen and Caleb Boman each finished the night with a goal and an assist for Brock.
 
Thiessen opened the scoring at 3:53 of the first, but Lakehead replied less than a minute later with a goal of their own.
 
The Thunderwolves took the lead in the second before Burton, and the Badgers scored their second power-play goal to open the third. Through the middle of the third, Lakehead scored four goals to make it 6-2 to cement their lead.
 
Owen Guy posted two assists while Jacob Roach, Christian Dedonato, Justin Kyle and Justin Brack each added a helper. Badgers netminder Mario Peccia made 35 saves as Lakehead outshot Brock 40-36.
 
The Badgers (6-2-1) look to bounce back against Lakehead on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Livestream the game on OUA.tv.
