No. 1 Badgers roar past Warriors in second half

The No. 1 Brock women's basketball team held off the Waterloo Warriors 55-44 in their first game back in front of fans at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

Brock started the game off by trailing through the first two quarters before flexing their offensive might in the second half.

"That was the first team we've played against who has come out aggressive," said senior guard Mackenzie Robinson. "It wasn't pretty, but we still pulled out the win. We fought our way back, and if we're going to have these games, then we have to adapt on the fly when things aren't going our way."

Brock ended Waterloo's four-game win streak. The Warriors (5-3) outrebounded the home side 47-30.

Samantha Keltos led the Badgers offence with 21 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Keltos, who averaged 15.4 points a game in the 2019-20 season, kept up her strong start for Brock (11-0). She's now averaging more than 19.5 points in the second half of the season.

Waterloo held a narrow 26-25 lead at halftime before Brock came back in the third with 20 points to capture the lead.

Brock shot 34.3 per cent in the second half (12-of-35).

Victoria Lawrence scored 10 points for Brock, while Jenneke Pilling and Madalyn Weinert each scored eight and seven points, respectively.

For Waterloo, Vanessa Hughes scored 15 points to lead the Warriors.

Yesterday, the Badgers made program history when they were ranked the top team in Canada by the U SPORTS Weekly Top 10 rankings.

"We had our goals set high at the beginning of the season, but being in the position we are right now means we can't get too ahead of ourselves," Robinson said. "There's still work to be
done."

Next, the Badgers (11-0) travel to Waterloo on Saturday, Feb. 26, for a 4 p.m. tipoff versus the Warriors (5-4). Livestream the game on OUA.tv.
