Maplethorpe earns Brock a point with another buzzer-beater

Cassidy Maplethorpe scored her second buzzer-beater of the season on Tuesday, March 1.

With two seconds left in the third period, Maplethorpe strode across the blue line and whipped the puck on net to beat Guelph goalie Alexandrea Davidson to send the game into overtime.

"I tip my hat to her," Davidson told the Gryphons broadcast following the game. "She got around the defenceman and it was honestly just a good shot."

The Badgers ultimately lost 3-2 in overtime and skated away with a point in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) standings.

On Feb. 15, the Medical Sciences student scored the game-winner over Laurier with less than a second remaining.

"Cassidy is one of the most competitive players I know," said head coach Margot Page. "She is so strong on her skates and the puck. A great teammate who loves it when the team scores and has the greatest smile on her face when she scores."

Maplethorpe finished the game with two goals. She scored a nifty short-handed goal by stripping the puck off a Guelph player attempting to break out of her zone before beating Davidson one-on-one to open the scoring.
