For the first time in program history, the Brock women's hockey team is going to the national championships.

The Badgers shut out the Western Mustangs 3-0 to win the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) semifinal in front of a full crowd at Seymour-Hannah Centre in St. Catharines.

Brock advances to compete in the McCaw Cup, and automatically earns a berth to the U SPORTS Women's Hockey Championships in Charlottetown, PEI.

"I'm just incredibly happy for the players on this team. Not just because we are going to nationals, but because of the calibre of women on this team. They're special," said head coach Margot Page. "We've got one more stop before then, the McCaw Cup."

The Badgers will travel to North Bay to face the Nipissing Lakers in the McCaw Cup final on Saturday, March 19 at 3 p.m.

Goaltender Tiffany Hsu made 18 saves for the shutout. Mikayla Flanagan opened the scoring at 9:59 of the first period with her first goal of the season.

Cassidy Maplethorpe tallied two goals to finish off the Mustangs.

Madison Cronkwright, Kaitlyn Colonna, Morgan Dezell, Ashley Robitaille and Rebekah Feld each added an assist.

Senior forward Carley Blomberg, who joined the Badgers in 2016, said she got a sense this team was special from the onset of the season.

"For some of the women on this team, including myself, it's been six years of hard work," said Blomberg, a Community Recreation student from Timmins. "This is a good way to end our careers at Brock. It's a dream come true."
