Badgers fall to UQTR in Queen's Cup, ranked No. 4 at U SPORTS

The Brock men's hockey team fell to the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) Patriotes during the 110th Queen's Cup in St. Catharines on Saturday, March 26.

The Badgers lost 3-1 to the Patriotes in front of a full crowd at Seymour-Hannah Arena.

"It was a disappointing outcome for the game, but I think we played some of our best hockey of the season in the last 20 minutes," said Brock forward Christian Girhiny. "We are looking forward to facing the nation's best in Halifax. We're ready to show the country why we deserve to be there. Thank you to all the fans that came out and supported us tonight."

UQTR roared out of the gate with an early goal from Felix Boivin. The Pats recorded a power-play goal courtesy of Simon Lafrance with less than a minute remaining.

Lafrance netted his second power-play marker midway through the second for a 3-0 lead.

For the Badgers, defenceman Cole Thiessen ended UQTR netminder Jonathan Brisson's bid for a shutout with a power-play goal early in the third. Captain Jared Marino and Adam Berg each recorded an assist.

Now, the Badgers look forward to returning to the U SPORTS University Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia from March 31 to April 3 for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
