Great run by Badgers ends at U SPORTS Men's Final 8

The Brock men's basketball team's playoff journey came to an end on Saturday, April 2.

The No. 1 Badgers lost 90-77 to the Dalhousie Tigers in the U SPORTS Men's Final 8 consolation semifinal at the Saville Centre at the University of Alberta.

Head coach Willy Manigat reflected on everything his team has overcome to get to this point.

"I don't think people understand how difficult it is to win this championship and to be a successful team at this stage in our development," Manigat said. "It's our first year together as a program, it's our first year with our recruiting class, it's our first year after a COVID year, and we just went through a covid season, yet we walked onto the biggest stage in our sport as the No. 1-ranked team."

The Tigers jumped out to a 20-13 lead in the first quarter and led by 15 at halftime.

In the second half, the Badgers built some momentum, outscoring the Tigers by a point in both the third and fourth quarters, however, it was too little too late.

Third-year forward Godsman Kwakwah led the way for Brock with 22 points as he shot eight-for-13 from the field, including four three-pointers. He was named Brock's Player of the Game for his efforts.

Saturday's game brings an end to a historic season for the Badgers after they posted a regular-season record of 14-1 in the OUA West. Brock won three straight playoff games to hoist their first Wilson Cup since 1992, and their first appearance at the national championships since 2017-18.

"I am extremely proud of this team and everything they have accomplished, no one can take away the thing that they have accomplished," Manigat said. "Wins and losses are irrelevant, it's a process. It's about being a winner and being able to look yourself in the mirror and be someone of character, and those guys showed their toughness and their character even when things weren't going well."
