The Brock Badgers and Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) today announced an exhibition game between the Men's Hockey team and an all-star team comprised of 2002-born players from the GOJHL.
Â
The game will be played at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, with free admission, at the Badgers' new home rink, the Walker Sports and Abilities Centre at Canada Games Park in Thorold. The event will see the top 20-year-old players from the GOJHL face-off against the Badgers, including some many familiar faces as they prepare for their OUA season.Â
Â
"We are excited to welcome the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League for a unique game at the Walker Sports and Abilities Centre at Canada Games Park," said Melissa Krist, Executive Director, Brock Sports & Recreation. "An exhibition game of this calibre will set a strong foundation for our men's hockey program as they begin a new season with head coach TJ Manastersky in a new home rink."
Â
"The GOJHL is an exceptional developmental league and has been an important recruiting ground for Brock hockey over the years. I am excited to get a first-hand look at the top talent in the league and provide the Niagara region an opportunity to see a unique match up with local players on both sides," stated head coach TJ Manastersky.
Â
GOJHL players will be provided with a first-hand view of the Badgers' facilities as well as the calibre of play in the OUA and U SPORTS. The event will also be a kick-off to the GOJHL's Showcase, beginning the following day in nearby Pelham and running through Sunday, Sept. 25 where all GOJHL teams will play two regular season games.
Â
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with Brock and to work with Melissa and TJ and their incredible program to participate in this event. It will be great to provide our players with a great opportunity to display their talent for recruiters at the next level while competing against some familiar faces on the other side to help them prepare for their season," said GOJHL Commissioner Brent Garbutt.
