The Brock women's basketball team split a pair of exhibition games over the weekend.

The Badgers defeated the St. John Fisher University Cardinals, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III school, by a score of 91-62 at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Sunday, Oct. 15.

On Friday, Oct. 13, Brock lost 80-65 to the Laval University Red & Gold from the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ) conference during a closed match at Canada Games Park.

Third-year guard
Madalyn Weinert led all players in scoring with 20 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals in 34 minutes of court time.

Teammate
Oluwatito Akinnusi, also a third-year guard, was close behind with 19 points and eight boards.

Third-year forward
Olivia Fiorucci poured in 18 points, which consisted of four buckets from beyond the arc. Senior guard
Noor Bazzi dished out six assists. Bazzi and second-year forward
Aleksija Vukovic each added eight points.

Brock led 33-8 in the first quarter as the Badgers limited the Cardinals to just 23.1 per cent shooting.

St. John Fisher enjoyed a 28-point scoring surge in the second, however Brock held a 50-35 lead at halftime.

In the final frame, Brock put the game out of reach with a 22-9 run, securing their victory with a buffer of 29 points.

For St. John Fisher, Sidney Tomasso and Hannah Ferguson each contributed 15 points.

Brock shot 55.1 per cent (38-of-69) from the field, and 26.3 per cent (five-of-19) from beyond the arc. In contrast, St. John Fisher struggled with their shooting throughout the game, with an overall field goal percentage of 40.4 per cent (23-of-57) and a 3-point percentage of 33.3 per cent (eight-of-24).

The game ended without any lead changes, and Brock outscored St. John Fisher in the paint 54-20. Additionally, the Badgers capitalized on points off turnovers 27-15.

Weinert also led the Badgers in scoring against Laval with 20 points and seven rebounds. Fiorucci and Bazzi each added 10 points.

For the Red & Gold, Elodie Lajoie led all scorers with 24 points.

Up next, the Badgers (2-3) continue pre-season play when they visit Montreal, Quebec to compete in the McGill Basketball Classic from Oct. 20-22. The Badgers open the tourney on Friday, Oct. 20 against Bishop's University at 2 p.m.
