Badgers tie Lions on Senior Night

The Brock Badgers settled for a hard-fought 1-1 tie in their clash with the York Lions on Friday night (Oct. 20).

York had a chance early in the first half but were turned away by senior goalkeeper Emma Hendrie. Juliana Andolina fired the first Brock shot on net at the 35th minute. Less than two minutes later, the Brock pressure paid off as sophomore striker Jenna Parris put in her career-high fourth goal of the year.

The Badgers held a 1-0 advantage after one half of play.

In the second half, the Badgers applied continuous offence with numerous corner kick chances and multiple shots on net. Kate Halley subbed on and had a scoring opportunity within six minutes of taking the pitch.

Both teams tried to find reinforcements, making substitutions late in the contest. One of York's subs Dylana Makarowski made an immediate impact, scoring the equalizing goal within a minute of coming on the field. Brock had some corner kick opportunities late in extra time but were unable to net the go-ahead goal.

Striker Sabrina Bisante earned an assist, while Andolina finished with two shots on net.

Hendrie made three saves in the tie in her final home regular season match as a Badger.

The Badgers honoured the seniors (left to right in the photo: Emma Hendrie, Grace Tawil, Adrianna Belfer-MarinLuisa Argento de Almeida) before the game with a pre-game ceremony.

Twail, a two-year captain with the Badgers, reflected upon her final home game in the Brock Badgers uniform.

"It's amazing. I'm grateful for Brock and for Carli for giving me so many opportunities. I'm going to miss this place a lot and playing here. The environment is truly amazing."

The centre back also had a chance think about her teammates after the contest.

"It's hard to put into words honestly. They truly are my family. we joke about it, that we fight with each other sometimes, but we're always there for each other. I know that no matter how much time passes between seeing each other, we're always going to be there for one another."

Up next, the Badgers will head to Toronto to take on this same Lions (2-4-5) squad on Sunday (Oct. 22). Brock will be looking to solidify their playoff positioning with a strong result in provincial capital.
