On Thursday November 2 at the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship gala, the national major award winners and All-Canadians were announced. Junior fly half Paige DeNeve received second team All-Canadian honours, the first time a Brock women's rugby player has received the recognition since Stefanie Pavlovich earned the distinction in 2007.
"We are immensely proud of Paige and all her accomplishments this year," said head coach Mark Smerdon. "Paige bought in to the style of play that we are trying to accomplish here at Brock and is a big reason we have been able to play that way. It's awesome she is being recognized as a second team All-Canadian."
Last week on Thursday, October 26, DeNeve headlined a record-breaking number of Ontario University Athletics (OUA) major award winners and all-star selections for the women's rugby program, being named named the OUA Player of the Year and first team all-star. The Zephyr, Ont product finished second in the OUA in scoring with 71 points (four tries, 21 converts, three penalty kicks) and was an offensive dynamo throughout the season, doing it all from kicking, running and passing. The Nursing student also provided strong tackling on the defensive side of the ball, showing off her versatility.
