lThe Brock Badgers' women's hockey team droped a tight 2-1 contest to the Western Mustangs on Thursday, Nov. 23 in London.
Fourth-year goaltender
Kenzie Harmison performed well despite the loss, stopping 27 out of 29 shots faced. The lone goal of the night was scored by sophomore forward
Jenna Duarte.
The first period involved a flurry of chances from Western on the power play but the Badgers were able to keep the score level at zero.
The second period saw Brock open the scoring through Duarte. The Hamilton product made a nifty move around a defender before rifling the puck past the Mustangs' goaltender for her fourth goal of the year.
Allison Stevenson picked up an assist on the goal. Just over 40 seconds later, Western's Haylie Kirkpatrick tied the game for the Mustangs.
A loose puck in the front of the net resulted in Western taking a late third-period lead over the Badgers. The Badgers battled hard to the end, coming close to an equalizer but ultimately the home side came away with the win.
The Badgers were able to successfully kill off all seven penalties.
Up next, the Brock Badgers (5-5-0-2) return to Canada Games Park as they host the Guelph Gryphons (12-2-2-2) on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. You can catch all the action on OUA.tv.
