The Brock Badgers men's basketball team defeated the No. 4 Queen's Gaels on Friday, Nov. 24 at Bob Davis Gymnasium by a score of 76-72 in their third straight matchup against a nationally ranked opponent.
Brock received contributions on offence today from up and down the roster as four players finished with double-digit scoring. Senior guard
Jevon Brown carried the load for the Badgers scoring 16 points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Jordan Tchuente contributed 13 points,
Kevaughn Ellis had 12 and
Isaiah Bujdoso finished with 11.
The Badgers started this one strong on both ends of the court. Tchuente and Brown both made some great plays for interior baskets and Brock's relentless team defence was giving Queen's lots of problems. The Badgers led at the end of the first 21-12.
In the second quarter, the Badgers kept the pace of play very high; moving the ball quickly on offence and forcing Queen's to do the same with more aggressive defence. Freshman guard
Anthony Heyes hit two shots from behind the arc in the frame that got the crowd jumping, helping the Badgers hold a 44-33 lead heading into halftime.
Queen's was not going down without a fight though as they did not allow the Badgers to continue their momentum in the third quarter. Some scrappy play from both sides saw the Gaels chip away at the Badgers' lead with Brock holding a 60-52 advantage heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Queen's really turned up the intensity, erasing the Badger lead by midway through the quarter. The Badgers remained calm and got the momentum and the lead back with a huge
Jordan Nelson three-pointer with a couple minutes left to go. Some clutch free throw shooting in the dying seconds from freshman guard/forward
Andrew McKenna secured the win for Brock.
Next up, the Badgers (4-2) will head to downtown St. Catharines on Saturday, Nov. 25 where they will host the McMaster Marauders (4-3) at the Meridian Centre for Paint the Meridian Red. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m, and tickets can be purchased
