Brock's strong second half takes down York

Box Score The Brock Badgers women's basketball team took the court for the second straight night on Saturday, November 4, and they came away with a 82-51 win against the York Lions.

The Badgers were coming off of a win in their home opener the night before and were looking to keep that momentum rolling into this matchup against York.

The first quarter was very tight as both teams exchanged baskets and forced turnovers. Brock came away with a slight advantage at the end of the first quarter, leading 16-15.

In the second quarter, neither team was able to separate themselves as there were multiple lead changes and ties.

First-year guard Jamie Addy collected her first career Ontario University Athletics (OUA) points, giving Brock the lead with a three-pointer with less than a minute left in the second. Addy's clutch shooting had the Badgers ahead 31-29 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the Badgers took control of the game quickly.

Junior guard Madalyn Weinert sat out the majority of the first half  but returned in the third to blow the game open. The St. Catharines product scored 12 points in the quarter and helped stretch Brock's lead out heading into the fourth.

With 10 minutes left to play, the Badgers were leading 55-42.

The Badgers did not let any comeback get started in the final frame. Noor Bazzi, Oluwatito Akinnusi and Weinert kept the momentum rolling and made some great offensive plays to secure a comfortable win for Brock. The game ended 82-51, giving Brock an undefeated weekend to start the season.

Weinert had an exceptional game for the second straight night, posting 24 points, nine rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals. Akinnusi also had a great all-around game for Brock contributing 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Next up, the Badgers (2-0) play their first road game of the season on Saturday, November 11 when they travel to Toronto for a matchup against the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold (2-0)..
