ST. CATHARINES - The Brock men's basketball team's season came to an end by just two points on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The No. 8 Badgers lost 82-80 to the No. 9 Queen's Gaels during the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) men's basketball quarter-finals at Bob Davis Gymnasium in a rematch of last season's Wilson Cup championship game.
The Badgers entered the game after earning a first-round BYE with a first-place standing in the OUA Central Division with a record of 16-6; the Gaels advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Western in Round 1 on Feb. 22.
On Saturday,
Jordan Tchuente led the Brock offence with a double-double worth 21 points and 11 rebounds. The second-year forward added four blocks and a steal.
Brock trailed 42-36 at halftime and its largest lead of the game was five points in the first quarter. The Badgers ended up outshooting the Gaels 42.5 per cent (31-73) to 37.8 per cent (28-74), but lost the rebound battle 39-32.
Isaiah Bujdoso tallied 19 points including nine assists and five boards. Seniors
Godsman Kwakwah and
Kascius Small-Martin each added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
For Queen's, Cameron Bett registered a game-high 24 points in 24 minutes of play. Cole Syllas recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds.
