The Brock men's hockey team edged the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 3-2 in a shootout during exhibition play at Canada Games Park on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Jacob Roach scored the game-winning goal and Tyler Burne netted a goal and an assist.

Connor Ungar made 35 saves, and denied three straight Ridgebacks in the shootout.

Cole Tymkin each registered an assist for the Badgers.

The first period saw a tight defensive battle, with neither team managing to score until late in the period. At the 11:19 mark, Ontario Tech's Stephen Calisti broke the deadlock with a goal assisted by Alex Drover and Cullen McLean.

The second remained scoreless, as both teams' defenses held strong. The penalty boxes were busy, but neither team capitalized on the power plays.

The third period brought a surge of excitement as Ontario Tech's Justin Svenson extended their lead to 2-0 at 6:09 with an assist from Gabriel Bernier. However, Brock fought back with two quick goals from Stepien and Burnie, tying the game at 2-2.

Ridgeback netminder William Desmarais stopped Stepien in the shootout before Roach solved the Ontario Tech goalie to lift Brock to its third pre-season win.

Up next, the Badgers travel to Toronto to face off against the York Lions on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:15 p.m.
