The Brock Badgers women's hockey team lost a close matchup against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday, Jan. 19 at Canada Games Park.
Third-year forward
Camie Matteau Rushbrook scored her first goal of the season in the loss. First-year forward
Randyll Strongman also scored, putting in her third of the year.
It took the Badgers just 33 seconds to find the go-ahead goal over Ontario Tech as Rushbrook found the back of the net for Brock. Just before the halfway mark of the opening frame, Ontario Tech struck back with a goal of their own, leveling the score through Kayla Welk. The Badgers were able to produce high danger chances to close out the period but were denied by the Ridgebacks' goaltender Zoe McGee.
The second period saw the Ridgebacks open the scoring through Alyssa Denney. With just 42 seconds to go in the period, Strongman was able to clean up a loose puck in front to tie the game on the penalty kill for Brock.
Catriona Cormier picked up the lone assist on the short-handed goal. Ontario Tech responded with a late goal of their own as the second period ended.
The Brock Badgers penalty kill performed well in the closing period, successfully denying the Ridgebacks from extending their lead. Brock controlled play throughout the third period with plenty of chances but were unable to find an equalizer.
Fourth-year goaltender
Kenzie Harmison stopped 28 of 31 shots on the night.
