Paige DeNeve (Zephyr, ON) of the women's rugby team and Jack Tiessen (Leamington, ON) of the baseball team have been named the Brock University Athletes for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 13. 

DeNeve, a fourth-year fly half, continued her strong season with another impressive showing, leading the Badgers to a commanding 76-12 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues in an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, Oct 12. The Nursing major led all scorers with 22 points off two tries and six conversions. Additionally, DeNeve helped set up two more tries for her teammates and broke the team's defensive line a total of eight times in the contest. Her impact as the lead decision maker on the field helped carry Brock to an astounding 12 tries in the game. 

Tiessen, a second-year starting pitcher, delivered a sensational showing on the mound at the OUA Baseball Championship as he led the Badgers to their first provincial medal since 2016. The Business Communication student pitched a complete game, going all seven innings and striking out eight batters as the Badgers defeated the Queen's Gaels 9-5 on Saturday, Oct. 12. In the fourth inning and the Gaels only down by two runs, Tiessen delivered a game-defining strikeout to get out of the bases-loaded jam. His endurance and mental toughness were on display all game as he threw an astounding 142 pitches.
