Badgers fall in U SPORTS Quarter-Final

The Brock Badgers men's basketball team was defeated 68-51 by the Dalhousie Tigers in the U SPORTS Quarter-Final on Friday, Mar. 8.

The Badgers will now compete in consolation bracket for the rest of the weekend in Quebec City.

Freshman forward Andrew McKenna led the Badgers with 12 points. Jordan Tchuente had a strong day on the boards, grabbing 14 rebounds to go along with his nine points and two assists. He was named the Badgers' player of the game for his efforts.

The Badgers struggled to make shots early and quickly found themselves in a multiple possession deficit. Tchuente tried to spark the Badgers through a nice blocked shot and some big rebounds, but Brock's offence could not get going. Dalhousie hit three from beyond the arc in the frame to build a comfortable lead. The Tigers led 21-7 at the end of the first.

In the second quarter, the Badgers' shooting woes continued. Brock was able to create open looks at the basket, but the shots just weren't falling, and Dalhousie's lead continued to grow. Georges Mfwamba Ngandu scored twice on the inside for the Badgers in the quarter, but four more three-pointers from Dalhousie in the frame had them up 40-13
at halftime.

The second half saw Brock's offence start to come alive, but it was a near impossible mountain to climb as Dalhousie continued to hit shots at a high rate. McKenna had seven points in the third quarter, including and impressive and-one late in the frame. Kevaughn Ellis and Davanté Hackett both connected on three-pointers in the fourth quarter, but the Badgers could never get within striking distance of the Tigers.

Next up, the Badgers will take on the No. 1 seed Victoria Vikes in the consolation semifinals on Saturday, Mar. 9 at 3 p.m. in Quebec City. You can catch the game on CBC Sports YouTube channel.
