The Badgers bounced back from a Game 1 loss to finish the day in thrilling fashion.
After falling in the first contest 9-0, the Badgers showed resilience, walking off the Waterloo Warriors by a score of 7-6 on Saturday, Sept. 21 at George Taylor Field.
Game 1: Brock 0 - Waterloo 9
The Badgers delivered five hits in the contest but were unable to solve Waterloo pitcher Max Todd who pitched a complete game shutout.
Wasting no time, the Warriors got on the board with two runs in the first.
A four-run fourth inning and three-run sixth extended the final advantage for the visitors to nine.
For the Badgers, Brady Campbell, Cole Carpenter, Flynn Matheson, Ethan Pasco and Nolan Phelan each notched one hit.
Charlie Hughes got the start on the mound and went 3.1 innings, giving up six runs (five earned) off seven hits. He also walked two batters.
Coming in relief, Noah Mitchell and Blake Vidal did not give up a run in their appearances in 1.0 and 1.2 innings of work, respectively.
Wilson Michel pitched one inning and gave up three earned runs and two hits while striking out two batters and walking two..
Brock gave up two errors in the field while Waterloo had an error-free Game 1.
Game 2: Brock 4 - Waterloo 3
Bouncing back in exciting fashion, the Badgers sealed their fourth win of the year with a walk-off single from Haydon Cupolo.
Ashton Feijo was a key catalyst for Brock at the plate, collecting three hits from two singles and a double while scoring three runs.
It did not look good for the Badgers to begin the contest as they found themselves down 5-0 after the top of the third inning.
Despite some offence in the bottom of the same frame, Brock would go on to fall behind 6-3 after six innings of play.
In the seventh and final inning, Brock delivered two singles and took advantage of two hit batsmen to tie the game. With only one out, Cupolo knocked in a single to centre field to score Tyson Gomm for the dramatic walk-off victory.
Gomm and Cole Carpenter chipped in with two hits each, with Carpenter earning a team-high two runs batted in (RBI).
The other Badgers who earned hits were Reid Lunney and Ethan Pasco, delivering one each.
Dante Cifala went the distance for the Badgers, pitching all seven innings. In the outing, Cifala gave up six hits and six runs (five earned), adding a game-high eight strikeouts.
Like the first game, the Badgers gave up two errors defensively while the Warriors had one of their own.
Up next, the Badgers travel to London to Labatt Memorial Park for a doubleheader cash at noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22.
