Starting their season on the road against a very strong Queen's Gaels squad, the Badgers showed they were up to the task with back-to-back victories.
On Friday, Oct. 24, the Badgers picked up their first win of the year by a 3-2 scoreline (25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 24-26, 15-13). After winning the first two sets, the Badgers dropped the next two to the Gaels that led to a fifth and deciding frame. Madison Tuck's four kills in the fifth set helped propel Brock to a 15-13 victory. Leading the Brock attack was Emily Foest, who notched 20 points off 16 kills and four service aces. Those aces were a story of the match as the Badgers notched nine to just three from the Gaels.
For the second match of their doubleheader weekend, the Badgers once again defeated the Gaels 3-2 (14-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19, 16-14). Unlike their first encounter, the two teams traded the first four sets before having to go to a fifth once again. Down as large as 12-9, the Badgers showed resilience by going on a 7-2 run to end the match. Foest led the offence once more with a 16-point performance from 13 kills, two service aces and two block assists. Defensively, Brock delivered 57 digs compared to 52 from Queen's.
Up next, the Badgers host the 'VolleyBoo Bash' on Friday, Oct. 31 against the Western Mustangs at Bob Davis Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
