Tuck, Code and Zaraska named Brock University Athletes of the Week

Madison Tuck (Georgetown, Ont.) of the women's volleyball team, Kylar Code (Kanata, Ont.) of the men's volleyball team and Chloe Zaraska (Toronto, Ont.) of the women's track and field team have been named Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 30.

Over the weekend, Tuck and the No. 6 ranked Brock Badgers won both their matchups against the No. 7 ranked McMaster Marauders in Hamilton. During Friday's 3-0 (30-28, 25-12, 25-17) victory, the Teacher Education major accumulated 10 points coming from seven kills, one service ace and two blocks, including several kills in the final set. On Saturday, the Badgers earned another win, this one in 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22) fashion. The fourth-year outside hitter scored a match-high 15 points from 14 kills and one block, with four of those kills coming in the deciding fourth set. Additionally, Tuck showed her grit on the defensive end, recording a match-high 12 digs.

Travelling to Hamilton for two matchups against the McMaster Marauders, Code and the Brock Badgers men's volleyball team split the weekend series. In Friday's 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 12-15) narrow defeat, the Business major tallied a career-high 28 points coming from 22 kills, four service aces and two blocks, including seven kills in the fourth set. Additionally, Code showed his defensive impact, collecting 13 digs. Looking for a bounce-back performance on Saturday, the Badgers secured a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) win. In this match, the fifth-year outside hitter tallied another match high with 13 points coming from nine kills and four blocks, including six points in the deciding set.

On Saturday, Zaraska and the Badgers travelled to Toronto for the York Holiday Open. The Nursing major earned a first-place finish in the women's high jump, recording a personal best of one metre and 74 centimetres. This jump automatically qualified her for the U SPORTS Championships, clearing the standard by 3cm. Zaraska's sensational performance marks the first time in women's track and field program history that an athlete has met the U SPORTS Championships auto-qualification standard in the first meet of the season. With this performance, the fifth-year athlete now sits atop the Badgers' top 10 all-time high jump list, clearing second place by 18cm.
