Weekend victories against the Marauders have the Badgers sitting at No. 5 in the national rankings.Â
The then No. 6 ranked Brock Badgers women's volleyball team made the most of their road trip to Hamilton, beginning with a 3-0 (30-28, 25-12, 25-17) sweep against the previously No. 7 ranked McMaster Marauders on Friday, Nov. 28. Four Badgers secured double-digit point totals, led by Emily Foest, who posted a 13-point night off of 10 kills and three service aces. Charlotte Ross notched 10 of her 12 points from kills, while Madison Tuck and Emma Baruchelli finished with 10 points each. Mackenna Knox was the primary setter, earning 35 assists for the Badgers. Brock's victory came in large part due to the discrepancy of errors in the match as the Marauders committed 23 to 13 from the Badgers. Brock also hit at .259 per cent to McMaster's .138.
On Saturday, the Badgers claimed victory once again, taking a 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-22) decision over the Marauders. Tuck was the primary scorer this time, contributing a game-high 15 points with 14 kills and a block. Foest chipped in with 13.5 points, doing so off of 10 kills, two service aces and three block assists. Knox matched her performance from Friday, once again earning 35 assists, which was two more than McMaster's team total of 33. The third-year setter also posed a season-high 7.5 points, coming from four kills, three service aces and a block assist. Brock's defensive ability was a key factor in Saturday's win as their 42 digs beat out McMaster's 35. The Badgers also maintained a strong advantage in the kills category, outhitting their opponents 44-35.
The Badgers will head into the new year riding a six-game win streak and sitting atop the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) standings. After a long break, they will return to action with a road showdown against the Nipissing Lakers on Friday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m., followed by a rematch on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. in North Bay, Ont.
