Goals galore on Senior Night: Badgers defeat Ridgebacks in emphatic fashion

Six different Badgers found the back of the net in the triumph.

The Brock Badgers women's hockey team put on an impressive display as they defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks by a score of 6-0 on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Canada Games Park.

Catriona Cormier led the way for the Badgers, recording one goal and two assists in the contest, while Julianna Parks scored her first career Ontario University Athletics (OUA) goal. Avery Diljee, Sydney Hood, Madelyn Walsh, and Taylor Wolsey all found themselves on the scoresheet as well.

Goaltender Ava Cruikshank turned aside all 23 shots she faced, for her second shutout of the season.

Brock got off to a strong start in the matchup, putting pressure on the visitors early, which resulted in Walsh finding the back of the net from a tight angle just over eight minutes into the opening frame.

Despite recording six penalty minutes to Ontario Tech's four, Brock still managed to deliver relentless offensive pressure, tallying 13 shots to the visitor's five.

Building on their momentum from the first, the Badgers came out firing in the second period, recording four goals in a span of seven minutes. Cormier opened the floodgates with a shorthanded goal, and Parks, Hood and Diljee added to Brock's tally in quick succession.

The third period featured more competitive back-and-forth action, but Brock was still the only team to find the back of the net as Wolsey scored her second of the season with six minutes remaining.

Brock was then able to see out the convincing 6-0 victory over Ontario Tech.

Allison Moore contributed two assists in the contest, while Diljee, Rayna Franklin and Camie Matteau Rushbrook all notched one.

The Badgers outshot the Ridgebacks 38-23 in the game.

Up next, the Badgers will travel to Windsor to take on the Windsor Lancers on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The last time these two teams met, the Lancers were victorious by a score of 4-3 on Feb. 10, 2024. You can catch the action on OUA.tv
