Brock earned a 57-54 win against York.Â
On Saturday, Feb. 15, the Brock Badgers women's basketball team travelled to the Tait McKenzie Centre in Toronto for an evening clash against the York Lions.Â
Fourth-year guard/forward Madalyn Weinert registered an impressive game with 24 points and a season-high 20 rebounds. Angeline Campbell also shined with 20 points to go along with six rebounds and six steals.Â
A strong defensive quarter by York limited the Brock offence while using post play on offence to attain a 19-10 lead after the opening frame.Â
What was once an 11-point lead for the Lions was erased quickly as the Badgers went on an 21-2 run thanks Campbell's 11 second quarter points and led 36-28 at halftime.Â
York found momentum in the third quarter as they capitalized on Brock's turnovers and went on a 13-2 stretch to cut the Badgers' lead to 49-46 through three.Â
From there on, both teams contained one another resulting in limited scoring. However, the Lions made a late push, but it wasn't enough as the Badgers forced timely turnovers to secure the win.Â
The Lions led the field-goal percentage category with 27.9 per cent as opposed to the Badgers' 24.7 per cent. Â
Coming up, the Badgers will host round one of the OUA playoffs on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Bob Davis Gymnasium at 6 p.m taking on the Laurentian Voyageurs. This game can be streamed on OUA.tv. Tickets will be available starting on Monday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. at University Tickets.
