The fifth seed Brock Badgers women's basketball team fell 72-53 against the fourth seed TMU Bold in an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
Madalyn Weinert recorded a double-double in the contest, registering a game-high 18 points, four assists and grabbing 13 boards which was another contest high.
After the Bold recorded the first three points of the contest, the Badgers went on a 10-0 run, with layups from Madison MacInnis and Audrey Ntetani helping drive the run.
Later in the opening quarter, a three-pointer knocked down by Angeline Campbell helped the Badgers hold a 16-11 lead through 10 minutes played.
The second quarter saw the Bold grab the momentum, reversing Brock's lead and going on a 10-0 run of their own.
A layup from Weinert near the end of the quarter cut TMU's lead but the hosts headed into the half with 32-28 advantage.
Looking to put themselves back into the game, Brock chipped into TMU's lead with help from a successful long field-goal from Olivia Fiorucci to tie it up at 45-45.
To end the third quarter, the Bold made multiple three-pointers to head into the final frame up 53-49.
TMU increased their lead to 69-49 to began the fourth quarter as they went on 13-0 run.
The Badgers scored late baskets, but the Bold's fourth quarter run saw the contest finish by a scoreline of 72-53.
Despite the loss, Brock showed a solid defensive effort early, recording five blocks to TMU's three.
The result concludes the Brock Badgers women's basketball 2024-25 campaign, ending with an OUA regular season record of 16-6. Women's basketball head coach Shae Dheensaw and the Badgers will look to improve on this past season's success in the 2025-26 season.
